IAX From a cellphone

Postby kb3ors » Wed Apr 25, 2012 8:27 pm

I have been getting a lot of emails lately asking how to make a cellphone connect to a node for control away from home. So here you have it folks. I will write this so that you can copy and paste to your linux box and just edit to your configuration.

First thing to do is download your preferred agent for your cellphone. EX: iaxagent or zoiper

Next we need to edit some files on the node.

log in with your root and password.

At root prompt copy and paste

cd /etc/asterisk

nano iax_rpt_custom.conf

scroll to the bottom of the file and add the following.

[zzzzzzzz] ; Change to your title for this type of connection EX: [my-phone]
username=xxxxx ; Change to your usrname
type=friend
context=tutorial
host=dynamic
auth=md5
secret=yyyyyyy ; Change to your desired password
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
allow=g726aal2
allow=gsm
codecpriority=host
context=radio-secure
transfer=no
callerid="xxxxx" ; Change to the ID you would like to show up.

CRTL + O that's the letter oh - to save the file

CTRL + X to exit the file

next

nano rpt.conf

scroll to the Phone functions list and edit the following under [functions-phone-1]

; Phone Functions

[functions-phone-1]
1=ilink,1 ; Specific link disconnect
2=ilink,2 ; Specific Link connect - monitor only
3=ilink,3 ; Specific Link connect - transceive
4=ilink,4 ; Enter command mode on a specific link
5=macro
7=ilink,5 ; Link status

80=status,1 ; System info
81=status,2 ; Time
82=status,3 ; app_rpt.c Version

6=autopatchup ; Autopatch up
0=autopatchdn ; Autopatch down

comment the following line out
;99=cop,4 ; Audio test tone

edit the following line to read as follows
99=cop,6 ; ptt on # by default drops it

984=ilink,7

CRTL + O that's the letter oh to save the file

CTRL + X to exit the file

next

nano extensions_rpt_custom.conf

scroll to the bottom of the file and add the following.

[tutorial]
exten=xxxx,1,answer()
exten=xxxx,n,Playback(rpt/node)
exten=xxxx,n,Playback(digits/y)
exten=xxxx,n,Playback(digits/y)
exten=xxxx,n,Playback(digits/y)
exten=xxxx,n,Playback(digits/y)
exten=xxxx,n,rpt(xxxx|P)

Example:
[tutorial]
exten=1234,1,answer()
exten=1234,n,Playback(rpt/node)
exten=1234,n,Playback(digits/1)
exten=1234,n,Playback(digits/2)
exten=1234,n,Playback(digits/3)
exten=1234,n,Playback(digits/4)
exten=1234,n,rpt(1234|P)

The above will allow you to connect to the node 1234. It will play back to you that you have connected to node 1234 and the P means you will have access to any commands available under (phone-1) in the rpt.conf file.

CRTL + O that's the letter oh to save the file

CTRL + X to exit the file

next

amportal kill

amportal start

this will reload all the configs you just edited.

Next open your iaxagent that you downloaded in step one.

In the preferences

enter the username you created in iax_rpt_custom.conf
the password you created in that same file

Domain/Server would be IP of your linux box.

Set the prefered audio codec to ulaw 8000.

Save the settings and connect.

At this point it will show your connected to the server.

To connect to the node open the keypad and dial your node number. You will hear a connection announcement that you are connected to the node (on the phone only).

At this point you can control the node just as if you were using your radio with the exception you do not have to keyup.

To talk on the node use the keypad and dial *99 for talk (Push To Talk)
and # to hang up (unkey) when finished transmitting.

Works perfect for me.. Now the hard part is how do you set it up so when you are on the RF or node side you can dial an extension you have set up.. IE from 2meter repeater dialing an IAX softphone on the PBX?
