Interfacing Computer to Node

Postby w7rug » Fri Dec 14, 2012 10:55 am

Hi Folks,
I'm new to this board and AllStar. Let me commend you, there's a ton of good information here. Thank you.

This is my first question with a bit of background:
I've been linking my two repeaters together using a hacked version of the IRLP software. I use only the sound card and parallel port pins 3 and 11 for PTT and COS. It works just fine. I do have a couple of issues with the software but the experimental nodes are fully functional and the link works fine.

I've been reading up on AllStar and it appears to me that DTMF encode and decode are software generated from within ACID. That being the case why do you need an interface for only PTT and COS? It's already live at pins 3 and 11 on the parallel port and if I'm reading things correctly can be configured to key using the usbradio.conf file. It would greatly simplify the hardware. If I'm missing something, that's why I'm here, to find out.

I would really appreciate your input. This enquiring mind needs to know. :D

The ACID distro supports PP connections. Check out this site.
